Penyanyi 90an: Red Hot Chili Peppers, dari Sahabat Jadi Artis

Fimela.com, Jakarta Tenar dari generasi ke generasi, popularitas Red Hot Chili Peppers masih bisa kita rasakan hingga sekarang. Bahkan hampir 34 tahun mereka berkarya di dunia musik, Anthony Kiedis dan kawan-kawan masih terus menerangi dunia musik dengan karya-karya spektakuler.

Grup beraliran rock dan metal ini pertama kali dibentuk pada tahun 1983 di kota Los Angeles. Pendirinya, Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Flea, dan Jack Irons, yang semuanya adalah teman sekolah. Awalnya, mereka memberi nama band ini Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem.

Sebagai band baru, mereka tampil pertama kali di Rhythm Lounge Club, yang langsung mendapat sambutan meriah dari penonton. Melihat tingginya antusiasme, mereka diundang lagi minggu depannya. Karir mereka sukses secara instan, dan tak lama kemudian grup ini mengganti namanya menjadi Red Hot Chili Peppers.

10 Agustus 1984, sebuah album debut akhirnya dirilis, dan menggunakan nama mereka senduri sebagai judul, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Walau saat itu mereka tidak berhasil memecahkan rekor penjualan, namun sekitar 300.000 copy berhasil terjual, dan merupakan sebuah pencapaian luar biasa untuk band baru.

Menggapai kemudian mempertahankan kesuksesan memang bukan hal yang mudah bagi Red Hot Chili Peppers. Perseteruan dengan kru, pergantian personil, bahkan kematian salah satu member sempat harus dihadapi. Meski demikian, hingga saat ini mereka masih tetap kokoh dan rajin merilis karya.

Saat ini, personil yang tersisa dalam grup ini adalah Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, dan Josh Klinghoffer. Sejak berdiri hingga sekarang, mereka telah merilis 11 album studio, dengan The Getaway sebagai album terkini yang dirilis pada tahun 2016 lalu.
