Penyanyi 90an: Spesialnya Dream Theater Tak Hanya karena Skill

Fimela.com, Jakarta Hampir semua remaja pria sepertinya pernah mendambakan kerennya menjadi anak band. Bagi mereka yang besar di era 90an menjadikan Dream Theater sebagai salah satu panutan adalah hal yang umum.

Grup jebolan Berklee College of Music di Boston, Massachusetts ini diperkuat para personel yang sudah dianggap master di bidangnya. Sebelum terbentuk sebagai Dream Theater, John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, dan John Myung menyebut diri mereka Majesty. Tahun 2010 Portnoy diumumkan hengkang dan digantikan oleh drummer jenius lainnya, Mike Mangini.

Tak lama berselang mereka melibatkan James LaBrie dan posisi keyboardis yang sempat bergant-ganti. Hingga akhirnya Jordan Rudess bergabung dan melengkapi formasi mereka. Terbentuklah sebuah band berkekuatan mega yang menawarkan progresi musik yang kompleks.

Di era 90an yang penuh distorsi, Dream Theater mendapat rekognisi luar biasa. Album Images and Words yang dirilis pada 1992 menjadi salah satu karya mereka yang paling melegenda. Hingga kini Petrucci dkk telah mengoleksi 14 album studio sebagai bukti eksistensi.

Fakta bahwa Dream Theater memiliki personel dengan skill dewa memang tak terbantahkan. Namun kemampuan mereka dalam mengolah dan mengaransemen lagu, serta mencampurkan emosi di dalamnya merupakan sumber daya tersendiri, yang membuat mereka terus dipuja sebagai band progressive rock paling disegani.
